Data Collection Assistant

Position Description:

Mathematica applies expertise at the intersection of data, methods, policy, and practice to improve well-being around the world. We collaborate closely with public-and private-sector partners to translate big questions into deep insights that improve programs, refine strategies, and enhance understanding using data science and analytics. Our work yields actionable information to guide decisions in wide-ranging policy areas, from health, education, early childhood, and family support to nutrition, employment, disability, and international development.

We are looking for part-time administrative support staff to work on-site at our Princeton office location in support of a variety of social policy research studies with focuses in areas such as education, nutrition, and health care.

Job responsibilities may vary based on project placement. Staff may be expected to perform any combination of the following tasks:

Quality Control & Data Entry:

  • Utilizing survey management databases to receipt, track, and update data; ensuring that incoming data is complete and accurate.
  • Reviewing surveys, coding responses, checking for errors and omissions, and updating computerized databases.
  • Data entry utilizing a data entry software, web-based platforms, or Excel.
  • Categorizing survey responses such as education degrees, institutions, occupations, and industries.
  • Handling phone calls from study participants to address questions about research projects as required.
  • Processing mailings including putting labels on envelopes, folding letters, inserting letters and other materials into USPS or FedEx envelopes. This task may require hours of repetitive motion.
  • Provide administrative support to data collection staff such as assistance with labeling of documents and compiling detailed mailings.
  • Prepare and ship materials and supplies via FedEx.

Field Support & Assistance:

  • Make comprehensive travel arrangements including air travel, car rental, and hotel bookings via Mathematica’s travel agency.
  • Track travel expenses, project materials, incentives, and equipment.
  • Provide technical support to data collection staff and troubleshoot technical issues.

Position Requirements:

  • 1 - 3 years prior clerical or administrative experience preferred.
  • Excellent computer skills – MS Office Suite and database experience required.
  • Data entry skills preferred.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Solid organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong work ethic and a commitment to reliability and high-quality productivity.
  • Ability to function independently as well as part of a team.
  • Candidates must be available to work 20 - 35 hours per week.

We offer an hourly pay rate of $17.20 with a potential for benefits and paid time off.
