Position Description:

Mathematica applies expertise at the intersection of data, methods, policy, and practice to improve well-being around the world. We collaborate closely with public-and private-sector partners to translate big questions into deep insights that improve programs, refine strategies, and enhance understanding using data science and analytics. Our work yields actionable information to guide decisions in wide-ranging policy areas, from health, education, early childhood, and family support to nutrition, employment, disability, and international development.

Mathematica is seeking part-time Field Locators to work on the Study of Food and Well-Being (PPC), sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food & Nutrition Service (FNS). This important study will advance understanding of the relationship between poverty, well-being, and food security status by gathering information about the food-related experiences, benefits received, and overall health and well-being of impoverished households. In-person data collection will begin in July of 2024.

Field staff will locate hard-to-reach study participants to encourage and support them in completing a survey via telephone or an online platform.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Traveling frequently to selected locations, making in-person contact with study participants to determine eligibility and discussing the study, answering questions, and obtaining participation.
  • Liaising between study participants and phone interviewing staff in the collection of confidential information and the administering of a standardized questionnaire.
  • Assisting study participants in the completion of a self-administered survey via web.
  • Safeguarding any participant incentives, issued equipment, or project materials against damage, loss, or theft.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of project and participant information.
  • Submitting timely and accurate Time & Expense reports (travel time and mileage is fully reimbursable).

Position Requirements:

  • Positive, self-motivated, and comfortable interacting with people from culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Possess effective communication skills through speech and listening.
  • Effective time, schedule, and workload management skills to meet set deadlines.
  • Computer skills, including email and internet proficiency.
  • Willingness to undergo a low-level background check.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and reliable personal automobile available for business use.
  • Ability to work a minimum of 25 hours per week for the duration of the project with flexibility to work during daytime, evening and weekend hours.

Attendance and successful completion of all scheduled training sessions is required to work on the PPC project. Project training is expected to occur July 2024.

This position offers an hourly rate beginning at $20 per hour.
