Senior Payroll Administrator

We are currently seeking a bright, energetic, and highly motivated Senior Payroll Administrator to join our team in our Princeton, NJ office.  As Senior Payroll Accountant you will assist the payroll processes for over 1300 regular status and 500 on-call employees across 10 locations throughout the country.   Other key responsibilities include payroll tax reporting and payments, conducting account analysis and reconciliation preparation, supervision of payroll staff, response to information requests, and assisting with federal, state and financial audits. 

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Processes timely and accurate payroll in accordance with all regulatory and reporting requirements including SCA (Service Contract Act)
  • Performs wide variety of record keeping and payroll processing activities, including, but not limited to, computing wages and overtime payments, calculating and recording payroll deductions, processing manuals, wage garnishments, and processing new hires, leaves of absence, and terminations
  • Responds to payroll inquiries of varying complexity
  • Ensures payroll is posted to correct accounting general ledger accounts
  • Works closely with Human Resources (HR) to assure accuracy of employee personal information and benefits
  • Researches, gathers and provides information regarding internal and external payroll related questions, problems and audit issues
  • Maintains current knowledge of applicable state and federal wage and hour laws
  • Processes terminations, calculating and preparing final paychecks in accordance with various state laws
  • Trains junior level Payroll Accountants
  • Accurately and timely reconciles quarterly and annual state and federal tax reports
  • Balances the payroll accounts by resolving payroll discrepancies
  • Month end closing- Payroll accounts reconciliation and other month end activities
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field and at least 5 years of experience in an accounting environment. A combination of equivalent education and work experience may be substituted
  • Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification required
  • Knowledge of Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA); U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) and Wage and Hour laws; as well as state and federal wage and tax laws, overtime and termination  pay requirements and multi-state regulations
  • Knowledge of accounting standards and rules related to payroll regulations and compliance
  • Knowledge of Federal Acquisitions Regulation (FAR), Service Contract Act (SCA), Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA), and government contracting rules
  • Knowledge of international payroll is preferable- Europe, Canada and Africa
  • Highly proficient in using Microsoft Office suite of software, particularly Excel, ADP payroll preferable ADP vantage/ workforce solution, tax, and reporting applications (i.e. Smart Compliance, ADP Reporting, etc.), and Deltek Accounting and Timekeeping systems
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Accuracy with work, strong organizational skill, and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to deal tactfully and diplomatically with others
  • Flexibility to handle multiple priorities, sometimes simultaneously, under deadline pressure
  • Ability to work independently for long periods of time
  • Willingness to travel to other locations as necessary
