We currently have openings for Project Managers in in the Human Services Unit. The Human Services Unit delivers a range of research, data collection, technical assistance, and operational activities that support evidence-based decision making in areas such as education, early childhood, labor, family support, and nutrition.
Project Managers help manage and support projects throughout the Human Services Unit. They help project teams meet their objectives while remaining on schedule and on budget. Project Managers assist project directors with planning, procuring, managing, and closing out complex projects and lead process-oriented tasks to contribute to excellence in project delivery. Additionally, Project Managers gain expertise in public policy topics and liaison with our clients and internal project teams.
Responsibilities include the following:
- Apply project management best practices to manage project schedule, cost, scope, and quality
- Work closely with project directors to manage large projects by tracking project operations, including schedules, finances, progress of work and identifying risks and proposed options for action by senior staff or clients
- Communicate effectively and serve as a liaison among technical project staff, researchers, internal business departments, programmers, external consultants, subcontractors, and client representatives to successfully execute project work by drafting correspondence for clients and subcontractors with respect to project management, technical, and contractual issues
- Analyze project expenditures, conduct cost analyses, and forecast project costs
- Prepare or contribute to deliverables and project plans, preparing reports in a visually appealing manner and evaluating operational components of projects, outlining problems, options, and solutions for action by client agencies
- Develop SharePoint websites, Microsoft Project schedules, Excel spreadsheets, and other collaboration tools
- Ensure project adherence to data privacy, security, archival, destruction, and transition requirements and other contractual stipulations
- Coordinate and conduct qualitative research tasks, including supporting literature reviews, conducting qualitative interviews, monitoring survey operations, and organizing and taking notes for large panel meetings
- Participate in business development opportunities by managing proposals
Position Requirements:
- Master's degree in Public Policy, Business, Management, Operations, Economics, Political Science, Public Health, Social Science, or a relevant field; or Bachelor’s degree with at least four years of experience in a related field
- Work experience with a policy research organization, state or federal government, a foundation, or a human services program
- Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently, accurately and independently in most or all of the tasks associated with lower grade level positions
- Accuracy with work, strong organizational skill, and attention to detail
- Excellent organizational, communication, writing, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to deal tactfully and diplomatically with others
- Flexibility to lead and manage multiple priorities, sometimes simultaneously, under deadlines
- Ability to work independently for long periods of time
- Willingness to take on challenges, learn new subject matter and assume responsibility for major project tasks
- Ability to lead multidisciplinary, in-person, and virtual teams, including subcontractors, senior staff and contracting agency staff
- Willingness to travel to other locations up to 25 percent of the time
- Certifications demonstrating management proficiency and expertise, such as Project Management Professional (PMP) are preferred.
- Experience with management tools, such as Microsoft Project is also a plus

This position offers an anticipated annual base salary range of $70,000-$90,000. This position may be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on company and individual performance.
Various federal agencies with whom we contract require that staff successfully undergo a background investigation or security clearance as a condition of working on certain projects. If you are assigned to such a project, you will be required to obtain the requisite security clearance.
