Mathematica is seeking a senior fellow with the ability to discern national health policy needs and translate those needs into both policy and technical evaluation frameworks. The position requires extensive experience evaluating federal Medicare payment models, expertise in cutting-edge methods appropriate to those evaluations, and demonstrated knowledge of and work with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Deep understanding of Medicare payment and value-based purchasing approaches is required and expertise in Medicare Part D and/or Medicare Advantage is highly desirable. Senior fellows typically serve as a principal investigator or project director on one or more projects and play a senior advisor role across multiple projects. Fellows also assist with strategic business development and play a key role in mentoring staff.
The successful candidate will join our group of over 600 health policy professionals, including staff with degrees in public health, public policy, economics, data science, statistics, behavioral or social sciences, medicine, nursing, and other relevant disciplines.
Duties of the position:
- Serve as principal investigator or project director or for major Mathematica projects, working effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
- Regularly contribute to or lead technical proposal content development.
- Lead quality assurance reviews of proposals written by other staff.
- Represent Mathematica to clients as subject matter expert or project leader; effectively engage clients to work through challenges and offer research or program expertise to help solve problems.
- Demonstrate thought leadership in one or more subject matter areas through extensive published material including papers, journal articles, blog posts, and other communications.
- Represent Mathematica externally by speaking at conferences, serving on technical expert panels, providing testimony, or other means of professional development.
- Serve as mentor and thought leader at Mathematica for staff on one or more areas of subject matter expertise, and develop ways to engage staff and share knowledge.
- Contribute to the development of new research and program practice areas with Mathematica’s senior leadership.
- Assist substantially in developing policies and processes for determining which research and program areas the company should pursue, and propose strategies for putting together an integrated package of research or other project activity.

- 15 to 20+ years of experience working in health policy or health research; this experience should demonstrate considerable subject matter expertise in at least 1-2 policy areas and include an extensive track record of thought leadership through published work and other activities
- Masters or doctoral degree or equivalent experience in public health, public policy, data science, statistics, economics, behavioral or social sciences, economics, or other relevant discipline
- Strong foundation in quantitative and/or qualitative methods, a broad understanding of health policy issues, and a detailed and nuanced understanding of at least 1-2 policy areas
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including an ability to explain observations and findings to diverse stakeholder audiences including program administrators and policymakers
- Demonstrated ability to provide project leadership and coordinate the work of multidisciplinary teams
- Excellent client relations
- Strong organizational skills and high level of attention to detail; flexibility to lead and manage multiple priorities, sometimes simultaneously, under deadlines

This position offers an anticipated annual base salary range of $155,000 - $220,000. This position is eligible for a discretionary bonus based on company and individual performance.
